Shambhala Principle dialogues in four world capital this year

The Shambhala Principle will be a key feature of a series of public dialogues in four cities this year – Chicago, San Francisco, London and New York.

All feature well-known speakers at each event with experience in different walks of life. All will explore the profound issues involved in understanding basic goodness and enlightened society.

The Chicago event was held 26 -28 April, entitled “Creating Enlightened Society: Imagining Peace”. This weekend consisted of a Friday night public talk hosted by the University of Chicago and a Saturday and Sunday program by the Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche with Kalapa Acharya Chicago Imagining Peace event logo Adam Lobel in partnership with various public and private organizations working to end youth violence in Chicago. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle were the Honorary Co-Chairs. The gathering offered a full-hearted and collective experience of the violence in Chicago, with the view that really opening our hearts to what is happening is a necessary step to addressing or helping to end the violence itself.

The San Francisco Bay Area event will take place 10 -12 May, 2013. It is “Creating Enlightened Society: Personal Path, Social Ceating Enlightened Society event logoTransformation.”  Hosted by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche with Acharya Adam Lobel, it will include Bishop Marc Andrus, Rev Angel Kyodo Williams, Chade-Meng Tan, Acharya Susan Skjei, Jyoti, and others. Participants will creatively engage with these groundbreaking community leaders on the interface between personal path and the ways to bring out basic goodness in our societies. Please visit Creating Enlightened Society for information and registration.

The London event, from 12 to 15 September, is being planned as an Awake in the world event logoextraordinary celebration to mark 50 years since Chögyam Trungpa’s arrival in the West in 1963. It will include teachings from Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche and leading teachers from Shambhala and beyond. The Sakyong will lead the event which will take place at the University of London, in the centre of the city, and will include: ” Creating Enlightened Society: an evening with Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche” on Thursday 12 September, and “Remembering Chögyam Trungpa : a day of celebration” on Friday 13 September. The event will be called ”Awake in the World : a festival of meditation, arts and social vision”.  All speakers and events are now online, and registration is open. For inquiries, please email awakeintheworld@shambhala.org.uk

The New York event date, likely in November, will be announced shortly.

All these events are totally resonant with the Sakyong’s newest book, The Shambhala Principle. In its prologue, the Sakyong writes: “If a more enlightened society is to come about, it must be based on a global conversation . . . allowing each of us to participate in the global community of people who wish to shift the destiny of our planet.”
